Cagliari Airport is the main airport on the island of Sardinia, serving its capital Cagliari. It is a popular destination for many, including Brits. Though there are not a lot of direct flights from the UK, it is easy to connect through Milan or Rome to reach it. 

Tolls: There are currently no toll roads on Sardinia. However, there are ZTL zones in the centre of the islands largest cities, and it is forbidden to enter these zones unless authorized (like a being a resident of a building in the zone). Make sure to avoid entering these zones to avoid any fines that the hire company will definitely pass on to you. 

Taking a hire car to the mainland: Most hire companies at Catania Airport allow their cars to be taken between Sardinia and mainland Italy. Usually, travellers make this a one-way trip (that is, not returning to Sardinia or not returning to the mainland). There is an additional fee for this, though it is not large percentage-wise if hiring a car for a week or more. You can search for the location where you would like to drop off the car and the extra fee will be included in the total prices. 

One-way rental between Sicily and Sardinia may not be available by the specific hire company you choose. And if they are, the fee is significantly higher than travelling to the mainland.

Brent and Sixt have hire desks in the airport's arrivals hall. Other hire companies have locations in the car park in front of the airport. A few companies offer a meet and greet or shuttle service to their location just away from the airport.

There are also cashpoints, a currency exchange, and a number of stores, some of them offering local Sardinian products. You’ll also find a lost and found office, a pharmacy, first aid service, and a chapel.

Nearest petrol station

If approaching the airport from the city, then an Eni petrol station along SS130 is the best place to fill up before returning your car. If approaching from the north, you probably would want to exit and one exit before the airport and make your way to a Q8 station on Viale Cagliari.
